Senior Claims Adjuster (Motor)

Key role purpose:

To work within a small team, and pro-actively handle a portfolio of motor claims, including a significant number of large and catastrophic loss bodily injury cases with a value in excess of £100,000.

Key tasks and objectives:

1.Responsible for own caseload of personal injury claims, including large and catastrophic loss bodily injury with a value in excess of £100,000.

2.Working under the supervision of Senior Claims Adjusters with own authority in accordance with set referral authority and criteria. Cases in excess of authority under referral to Claims Manager.

3.Communicating via telephone (incoming and outbound calls) and written correspondence with policyholder, keeping them updated of all material developments, witnesses, Insurers, repairers, solicitors, engineers, third party representatives, medical experts, forensic accountants, rehabilitation providers, case managers, investigators, medical agencies, costs draughtsmen, re-insurers, CRU, Counsel, police authorities and third parties in order to bring about resolution of claims.

4.To ensure each claim is dealt with in line with company/departmental procedure/philosophy and within service standards through to settlement stage in line with personal authorities.

5.Claims data input work as required using Proclaim, Microsoft Word, and Excel.

6.Interface with relevant claims units and departments within the company.

7.Investigating liability where required, by telephone enquiries, accident report forms, instructing accident investigators, applying for police reports or any other necessaryinvestigations.

8.Making decisions on liability, admitting, disputing or negotiating split settlements.

9.Negotiating settlement of claims within agreed authority limit or under referral where above.

10.Making payments in respect repair accounts, hire accounts, agreed settlement figures in respect of Special and General damages, Claimant solicitors costs, own agents fees and own solicitors costs.

11.Negotiating costs where allocated.

12.Maintaining portfolio by dealing with telephone calls, incoming correspondence and diary to ensure case is up to date.

13.Ensure databases maintained with accurate data and in accordance with department procedure.

14.Reserving adequately on a prudent and realistic basis with references to case law, Ogden rates and multiplicands.

15.Instructing Panel Solicitors (in accordance with department procedures) where proceedings issued and liaising with the same to progress case to settlement or trial.

Key technical skills, knowledge, professional qualifications required:

1.Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar claims adjusting role.

2.Experience of handling motor claims involving liability disputes.

3.Accurate, reliable, with excellent attention to detail and an analytical approach.

4.Understanding and experience of all regulatory issues an advantage (FSA, Data Protection etc.).

5.Production of high quality written work product essential.

Key personal skills required:

1.Ability to organise workload, under pressure, whilst meeting tight deadlines.

2.Ability to work on own initiative.

3.Good working knowledge of the Microsoft Office package, including Excel.

4.Effective investigation and negotiation skills.

5.Effective communication skills, written and verbal, demonstrated by experience liaising with internal and external stakeholders.

6.Ability to develop and maintain solid working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

Special requirements:

1.There may be occasional travel to other offices, as and when required.

2.This role is subject to a background criminal record check, and will be subject to a Basic DBS check. Having a criminal record will not necessarily prevent you from gaining employment with us.   • Up to £35,000 depending on skills and experience
